I’m Rosanne.
I worked as a high school librarian for about 33 years; I retired at the end of the school year in 2010. I certainly don’t have a bad word to say about retirement, but I do miss kids. My own two kids are regular grown-ups now. I can keep in touch with former colleagues, and do, but it’s hard to come by random groups of charming teenagers unless you have some kind of job that makes that happen. Anyway.
I stumbled across Zentangle in September 2011 at a small shop in Southwest Harbor, Maine, where I met my first CZT, Jenny Perruzzi. There was no time to take a class that day, but I bought a book, and a kit that contained a pencil, a pen, and a few tiles. And …. hooked.
I took my class with the wonderful DiAnne Ferrer of A Tangle Grows in Brooklynin March
2012, in Staten Island. I couldn’t find a single CZT closer to me in New Jersey who was offering classes at that time, and DiAnne not only helped me to see that I was on the right track, she planted the seed of an idea in me, which was that maybe I could be a CZT, too.
Fast forward — maybe not so fast — to October 2013, another glance at the list of CZTs at zentangle.com, and fate was kind enough to introduce me to Joy Taylor, newly trained CZT who, incredibly, lived pretty close to me, and happened to be, of all things, a retired school librarian. I became a very happy member of her little band of tanglers (to be known in these pages as Group) and decided almost right away that a future as a CZT was waiting for me.
Original text: I’ll be attending the first of the two June 2014 seminars. Among the many benefits I see before me, I’d like to include the hope that this new passion, Zentangle, will be one day bringing me round about to two of my past passions that have gone out of reach: teaching, and kids.
Update: I attended CZT Seminar XIV in June, 2014, as I may have *ahem* mentioned elsewhere on the site. I AM A CZT! Carry on.
Update: After teaching a class to a lovely group of Girl Scouts in February, 2015, I re-registered with that organization (after a lull of 15 years or so) and am in the process of volunteer training. Kids!
Contact
I’m in northern New Jersey, but I’m willing to travel, within (or perhaps without) reason.
The best way to reach me is by emailing me at queserazt@gmail.com.
The fastest way to reach me is by texting to 862-217-4114. (This is a new number as of 11/2014.) This is the best way to let me know, for example, that you will be late for a class.
I check for email and texts frequently throughout the day, whether I am home or away.
You can also call 862-217-4114 and leave voicemail. I will return your call as soon as I can.
My hearing is significantly impaired, and although I have no difficulty in person, I don’t hear as well on cell phones as I’d like to, or as well as most people do. This is why I prefer to communicate in print. But if you prefer to call, call. I’ll crank up the volume on my hearing aid and get back to you.
If you or anyone else who will be signing up for instruction is hearing impaired as well, please be aware that I am not a member of the deaf community and I do not sign, as my hearing impairment occurred as an adult. However, I do have experience working with hearing-impaired children, as well as with children with other special needs, and can adapt my teaching style to the learner’s needs.
In addition to my newest credential as a CZT - Certified Zentangle Teacher - I am also certified by the State of New Jersey as a Teacher of English and as an Educational Media Specialist (that is, as a school librarian.) Both of these certifications, as issued, apply to grades K through 12. I also hold an M.Ed. in Curriculum from Montclair State University.
