Diva Challenge 159

I'm back, and it's a holiday challenge. I often have difficulty with these, but I do love St. Patrick's Day, even if my tile is not what one might expect this holiday to inspire.

Explanation: Afterglo is a very happy pattern to me; I love to do it and I love to look at tiles I've done it with. Poke-Leaf just means life to me; it's one of the few patterns that looks like a real object that I enjoy using.

And yes, this tile is all glitter, all the time. It's a very happy tile to me. (Although I have no idea if the glitter is going to show at all!)

On St. Patrick's Day, 1981, my perfect little first baby girl (who is ¼ Irish) was born. Many months earlier, when the Hubs and I broke the news of the impending first grandchild to his folks, I saw the "grandson" lights go on in his dad's eyes, but my 100% Irish mother-in-law said with no doubt "It'll be a girl, on St. Patrick's Day." And it was, and she is, and she was the light of Gramps' eye after all.

Ahem.

I like St. Patrick's Day, but there's not a bit of Irish in me. Not anymore, anyway.

Diva Challenge 157

This is a UMT challenge. We are asked to use the pattern "Charlie." My Charlie is layered over a Hollibaugh-ish kind of thing; actually it's based on a photo I saw on Pinterest. Here ya go:

Diva Challenge 156

I LOVE this challenge! I really, really like grid- based patterns, but after awhile they all started feeling the same to me. So I started using wavy lines and different angles. This week's challenge asks us "to try grid-based patterns on curvy or uneven grids.  Feel the freedom of not being constrained in right angles!!"

Here are a few tiles I've done in the past that fit right in.

This is from January 2, 2014, so, only about two months ago. The spiral string is taken from a photo I saw somewhere. The uneven gridded background is Hibred. The black beads have no name, really, but are also based on elements from the original photograph.

This was mostly a color experiment, from March 2013. The uneven grid is the white. I used paint pens to color in the grids (that was the experiment) and left it to dry, and then put Küle in each box.

But this is one of my favorites. Ive seen many others do this, too: use red to draw your attention to the design, or a part of the design. Red really pops on black and white, I guess. (What's black and white and red ...?)

I do think I'll try more later; I like this a lot. My activity for the day has been to turn a box that came with something in it -- an iPhone cable maybe -- that was too excellent a box to recycle, into a compact  Z© kit. Pictures tomorrow, perhaps.

Diva Challenge #155

Diva Challenge 155 asks us to "Try leaving a big open white space in your piece this week!"

I'll be working on the challenge later today -- I've only been up for about a half hour at this point -- and since it's snowing yet again, I doubt I'll be going anywhere. 

And how cute is little Artoo in his sunglasses? At least someone is having fun with the snow.

So I used a pattern called Balloya, which was recently received in the daily email from tanglepatterns.com.   Correction: I did not get it from tp, I found it on Pinterest. Here's a link to its original site. Oops.

 I did it twice, actually.

For shading on the black one, I used the soapstone stick from zentangle.com, first time. I could use a little more practice, but it blends nicely.

"Valentangle"

This is not likely to be one of my gems. Most things I do that are theme-based are pretty abstract, since representational art is not a skill with which I was endowed.

Valentine's Day is love, love is organic, love grows. Here ya go.
